Professional Profile
I am a voice pedagogue and performing singer with over a decade of experience teaching individual and group instruction for a variety of ages and musical genres. I hold a Master of Music in Opera Performance and bring substantial expertise in sustainable vocal technique, assessment, repertoire selection, and student preparation for performance, examinations, and further study. In addition to maintaining an active professional performance career, both as a solo and ensemble singer, I have extensive experience coordinating all logistical and artistic elements of independent recitals. As an educator across community music schools and private studio contexts, I have substantial experience developing, implementing, and maintaining structured curricula and lesson plans aligned with learning outcomes, progressive skill development, and age- and ability-appropriate repertoire. I prioritize learner-centred pedagogy and stay up to date on voice science and progressive teaching practices through my involvement in local and online teaching communities.
Teaching Philosophy
I believe every student possesses limitless potential and brings their own unique learning style and goals to the table. Mastering an instrument requires patience, dedication, and hard work, but also a sense of exploration, creativity, and playfulness. My aim is for my students to not only develop and refine their musical skills but also to build confidence and pride that transcends into all areas of their lives.
As both a teacher and an artist, I am dedicated to fostering a nurturing environment where individuals from all backgrounds and identities feel safe, valued, and encouraged to grow.
“Rachel’s acceptance and understanding of my vocal injury and related challenges, and her patience and creativity in addressing my underlying problems, have proven her to be an exceptional voice teacher. She has been able to help me sing again comfortably at a high level. I have appreciated her level of knowledge of my vocal injury and her knowledge of voice pedagogy and repertoire which included development of many exercises tailored to my condition. It has been successful and highly rewarding for me to recover my former vocal range and stamina. As a professional singer herself, she is inspiring to everyone who hears her perform. She is enthusiastic and her love of music and singing is contagious. I am very fortunate to have her as a teacher.”
